The exports of Scottish, farmed salmon rose 48% in 2003 across all major markets, according to Scottish Quality Salmon.
Exports overall increased to 86,356 tonnes. Exports to France rose 25% to 34,610 tonnes while those to the US were up a massive 217% to 22,739 tonnes.
Demand from Germany increased 41% to 7,235 tonnes and Japan was also up 53% to 3,236 tonnes.
Exports of Label Rouge salmon to France rose 5.5% to 5,837 tonnes.
“The ‘Scottish’ label has great resonance with consumers. When people see the word, they know they are getting a great tasting product from a reputable source,” said SQS chief executive Brian Simpson.
