Tesco's largest London store will open for business in September as Tesco cracks on with its first regeneration project in the capital. The 109,000 sq ft Extra store at London's Docklands will be the anchor store at the 500,000 sq ft Gallions Reach shopping centre, which has also attracted Next, Boots, Superdrug and Dixons. The 770 acre former Royal Docks is currently home to the Beckton Alps ski slope. The project will provide a raft of new jobs and a range of affordable housing, in partnership with Newham council, the employment service, East Thames Housing Group, the basic skills agency and shopworkers' union USDAW. A planning application due shortly will include one million sq ft of offices and 3,500 homes as the next step in Tesco's £20m London Initiative. Two more partnerships in the capital will be announced "imminently". {{NEWS }}
