Extreme Drinks is moving into the struggling smoothies sector with an ambient range targeted at the convenience channel.

Bigberry Smoothies contain 100% natural fruit, come in three flavours and are packaged in recyclable bottles. They would fill the gap for “a natural offering with a long shelf life” said company founder Lee Wilson. A “gentle pasteurising process” had made it possible to achieve a three to four-month shelf life without using artificial preservatives, he said.

Wilson predicted the newcomer would generate up to £2m in retail sales in its first year.
