Regional Farm Foods is planning to expand and roll out nationwide following the success of the business in the South Downs.

RFF, which currently turns over just under £1m, will initially look to produce more lamb and beef through subsidiary South Downs Marketing, and create more added-value products. It will then look for producers nationwide as part of a progressive national rollout, with the north, north-west and the Midlands targeted as the next areas for expansion.

Up until now RFF has only supplied local independent stores, but will soon begin supplying independent chains and has long term ambitions to supply the major multiples.

Some 18 South Downs farmers will produce 10,000 lambs this year. Under the RFF system farmers are given a fair price that allows them to reinvest and maintain the environment, said md Chris Clark. The company offers butchers and food retailers a fixed cost structure that brings transparency to the process, he added.
