This week the Co-operative Group became the first retailer to sell Fair Trade mangoes pricing them at 99p each, backed by a buy one get one free' offer lasting until January 27. The first consignment was 2,500 cartons. The chain already stocks Fair Trade bananas. The varieties, Tommy Atkins and Kent come from the El Jardin en la Frontera estate at El Oro in Ecuador. They will be branded Oké and be available until February. Importers AgroFair UK expect to ship more, which are being granted Fair Trade certification, from Burkina Faso and then Mexico. The company plans to extend the range to pineapples, citrus and other tropicals. {{FRESH PRODUCE }}
