Sainsbury has teamed up with the Fairtrade Foundation to develop its first own label range of Fairtrade products. The first line  a ground coffee sourced from a Columbian co-operative representing 70 growers  has gone into 383 Sainsbury outlets out of the chain's 450-plus stores. A Sainsbury's Fairtrade tea will arrive instore in the new year, with a decaffinated coffee and a hot chocolate drink to follow. If the ranges are successful, other products will be developed. Under the scheme, growers are guaranteed a stable price for their product that covers costs with a social premium' on top, irrespective of fluctuations in the market price of coffee beans. The beans are shipped to the UK and roasted, ground and packed by Finlays, which has been supplying Sainsbury with coffee since 1911. {{P&P }}
