Farmers are being encouraged to set up box schemes to sell beef direct to consumers - bypassing retailers.
Eblex has created a Fresh From The Farm promotional pack to help assured beef farmers working with Quality Standard scheme abattoirs to boost sales.
"Box schemes are an exciting opportunity for assured beef and sheep producers to tap into potential market opportunities, particularly given the growing consumer interest in food provenance and food quality," said Dick van Leeuwen, project manager for Eblex.
Box schemes have traditionally been hard areas for farmers to get involved with because of the marketing and business development skills required, according to van Leeuwen. "Access to available abattoir capacity and matching product availability with an appropriate customer base are also key issues."
The beef packs contain booklets giving yield information and cutting specs. Farmers also receive marketing materials.
