The Food & Drink Federation, the main representative body of the UK food and drink industry, has named former Warburtons boss Ross Warburton as its new president.

Warburton, who chaired the baker for a decade until 2001 and remains an executive director with the group, will take over from current FDF figurehead Iain Ferguson on 1 January next year.

“I am delighted to have been chosen by the members of the Food & Drink Federation to represent their interests and to continue the excellent work of our current president,” he said.

“I look forward to working with the FDF team and other stakeholders in the food chain, as we address the challenges and opportunities that face our industry.”

Warburton is also non-executive chairman of chilled foods group Uniq and Jordans Ryvita.

Meanwhile, the body has named Apetito chief executive Paul Freeston as its new deputy president and treasurer. His tenure also begins on 1 January.
