Health bosses have announced the criteria behind their pending five-a-day logo.

Department of Health officials said the logo, to improve healthier eating, could only be used to promote fruit and vegetable products without any added fats, sugars or salt.

It will apply to fresh, chilled, frozen, canned and dried fruit and vegetables as well as 100% fruit and vegetable juice.

However, bosses did confirm there would be an administration fee for anyone applying to use the logo on their products.

The launch of the logo is planned for Spring, but many retailers remain sceptical, the vast majority having already launched their own five-a-day projects.

Despite this, the clarification of the criteria was welcomed by the food industry.
