Findus has become the first Swedish processor to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable fishing by launching a New Zealand hoki fish product certified to the Marine Stewardship Council environmental standard.

The overfishing crisis prompted Findus to introduce a new fisheries sourcing policy.

In the long term, Findus intends to offer a hoki alternative to all its current cod dishes and hopes to encourage more fisheries to come forward for certification through their support.

More products are being developed for launch in the Duchy Selections range later in the year using MSC certified Thames herring caught in drift nets. Duchy Originals recently launched a Cornish Mackerel pâté range made with sustainably caught mackerel from the Devon and Cornwall coast. The pâtés were developed following the visit by The Prince of Wales to the South West Mackerel Handline Fishery.
