Constellation Brands has continued on the acquisition trail with the purchase of a 40% share in Italian fine wine company Ruffino, just weeks after finalising a deal to buy Robert Mondavi.
Franciscan Estates, the premium wine division of Constellation, will oversee distribution while the Folonari family will retain the majority interest in the company. It is part of Constellation’s increased focus on premium wine, which included last month’s $1.36bn purchase of Californian wine company Mondavi.
Constellation Europe chief executive Christopher Carson told The Grocer: “I see Mondavi fitting our company like hand to glove. They have a wonderful heritage and are one of the best premium wine brands around.”
