Frozen food manufacturer Birds Eye is to use sustainable fish in its fish fingers.

The firm will use Alaskan Pollock fillets to make its fish fingers instead of cod, following warnings from experts that cod stocks in the North Atlantic had shrunk drastically.

“It's a bold move - the first mass-market sustainable fish programme in the world - but it's a calculated risk and we feel good about it,” Birds Eye Iglo CEO Martin Glenn told the Guardian.
