UK seafood buyers will soon have a new source of MSC-accredited coldwater prawns as Norway has been awarded MSC status for prawns from the North East Arctic.

The accreditation for the shrimp - sourced from the Barents - means 73.6% of all wild fish caught and exported from Norway is now MSC-certified. The UK is the second-biggest market for Norwegian coldwater prawns, with 23% of the catch - valued at £12m - exported to the UK.

MSC certification gave official recognition that Norway’s coldwater prawns were sustainably harvested and highlighted Norwegian seafood as a leading voice in the market, said the Norwegian Seafood Council.
