The Scottish Shellfish Marketing Group has launched the first line in its new product development drive.
A twist on a traditional New England dish, Mussel and Smoked Salmon Chowder is one of the first results of a recent £400,000 investment in production lines.
The Chowder, in a 350g chilled format, has gone into 85 Waitrose stores. It is rich in Omega-3, and is full of nutrients such as iron and calcium.
SSMG is promising a raft of NPD in coming months as the popularity of exotic flavoured
Scottish shellfish increases. The aim is to make mussels and other shellfish more accessible to a wider public.
Donny Gillies, SSMG sales director, said: “The launch is at an exciting time for us as we react to increasing demand for Scottish shellfish in innovative styles. Sales are up 20% this year alone.”
