As harvesting of grapefruit gets into its stride in Florida, packers are predicting that as much as 80% of the fresh crop could be export quality, around double that achieved last year. This along with better sized fruit will provide a strong platform to develop European sales which fell by nearly 19% last year to 6.7 million cartons. The majority of the 6.4 million cartons were pink varieties. Texas, which also ships pink grapefruit to Europe, will see its crop rise by 500,000 cartons to 10.5 million. {{FRESH PRODUCE }}
