Haddock prices continue to rise

The price of coldwater prawns tends to drop off towards the end of the summer and this year is no exception, with the price currently at £3,246/tonne - down 33.7% on last month. However, prices remain slightly elevated on last year, up by 2.7%.

Haddock prices continue to rise following a quota reduction for the Barents Sea, which cut the allowable catch for 2013 by 37% year on year. Supplies have tightened as a result, pushing prices up by 50.9% year on year and 14.3% month on month.

A reduced quota has also pushed up mackerel prices on last year, although prices have eased somewhat over the past month as seasonal demand weakens.

Meanwhile, salmon prices remain high compared with last year after cold weather in Norway slowed down salmon growth. These high prices have dampened demand, leading to a price reduction over the past month.
