The soup market has grown by 9.1% in the past 12 months, up £47m in real terms. The main driver remains price, but there has also been a significant impact through buyers purchasing more often and buying more per trip.

Dry ambient has driven growth, outperforming wet ambient, which makes up the largest sector of the market. In chilled, low-calorie soup holds a 5.3% share of spend, up from 2.8% last year.

The top four retailers accounted for 73% of sales, with growth being driven by Asda, which is performing well in both chilled and wet ambient soup. Morrisons continues to underperform and M&S is overtrading but growing far behind the market.
