The Fresh Produce Consortium has slammed the London Science Museum for an exhibition asking people to examine how much airfreighted food they buy.

'Does flying cost the Earth?' encourages consumers to help reduce airline emissions. However the FPC claimed calls for shoppers to buy less airfreighted fruit were misguided. "The exhibition sets out a misleading hotchpotch of pledges for individuals," it said.

Airfreighted imports of fruit and veg accounted for only 0.2% of total UK greenhouse gas emissions, FPC claimed, with airfreighted produce on dedicated aircraft only accounting for 0.12% of total UK gas emissions.
