It's a classic 'coals to Newcastle' tale - but with a cheesy twist. Galeries Lafayette, one of France's top retailers, has found a new supplier for Brie in an unlikely place - Northern Ireland.

The retailer has placed its first order of Fivemiletown Creamery's award-winning Ballybrie soft cheese, which is to go on sale in its flagship store in Paris and regional stores.

"Selling Brie to such a prestigious food store in France, especially in Paris, is a marvellous endorsement of the quality and distinctive flavour of our Brie," said Peter Dunlop, sales and marketing manager at Fivemiletown. "As well as product quality, the customer was impressed by our distinctive packaging."

Fivemiletown has also signed a deal to supply cheese to one of the top US supermarket chains, Safeway, in greater Boston. It said the prospects of a roll-out of Fivemiletown cheeses to the chain's 1,600-strong network in the US and Canada were good.
