One year after launch, 99p Stores says its fresh produce range is doing well and has now become a permanent fixture.

The chain became the first fixed-price discounter to offer fresh produce last December, when it added fresh meat, fruit and vegetables - all priced at 99p.

“We brought the range in 12 months ago and customers like it,” said co-founder Hussein Lalani. “We think it’s going well and are quite happy with it.”

The 99p Stores fresh range comprises pork, chicken and seasonal fruit and veg. Lalani said there were no plans to extend the range further but added: “We are considering other options for the long term.”
