Lancashire cheese producer Dewlay and Marketing Lancashire have teamed up to promote Lancashire cheese and raise awareness of Lancashire Day.

The day (27 November) marks the date when the first elected representatives from Lancashire were called to Westminster by King Edward I in 1295.

Dewlay and Marketing Lancashire have launched a social media competition under the slogan “Say Cheese for Lancashire”, which encourages Lancastrians to upload “smiley” photos to the VisitLancashire Facebook and Twitter pages to create “a gallery that captures the warmth, friendliness and genuine welcome that awaits visitors to Lancashire”.

The winner of Lancashire’s “warmest smile” will be selected in the New Year by a panel including Lancashire actress Jodie Prenger (pictured) and will receive a £100 voucher for Dewlay’s cheese shop.

Dewlay sales and marketing manager Conor Daunt said it was important to keep Lancashire’s traditions alive. “What better way to celebrate LancashireDay than with a cheese that’s inextricably linked with Lancashire culture,” he added.

The competition will run until the end of the year.
