Poultry giant Moy Park is adding a ‘no need to wash’ label to its branded whole birds.
The Irish business - a major supplier of own-label poultry to the mults - said it was supporting advice issued by the FSA this week that consumers should not wash chicken.
An FSA survey found that 44% of people washed chicken before cooking it - which it said could spread campylobacter on to hands, work surfaces and clothing.
From this week, Moy Park branded birds will carry a water droplet-shaped label with the words ‘no need to wash’ .
“Our research confirms consumers know chicken is perfectly safe when cooked and prepared properly,” said technical director Ursula Lavery.
