Sainsbury’s has introduced a new range of apple and pear packs to its Sainsbury’s Local stores to better tailor its top-fruit offering to convenience shoppers.

Previously, Sainsbury’s stocked its Local stores with the same packs used in its superstores, including bags of fruit, loose fruit and plastic-wrapped trays.

Now, the retailer has replaced bagged fruit with a range of punnet-less flowwrapped packs, including new six and eight-packs as well as a two-pack of ripe pears.

“We know that our customers want to eat healthy food on the move,” said Sainsbury’s top and stone fruit technologist Dr Theresa Huxley. The new range met this need by offering convenience shoppers a choice of smaller pack sizes in a neat flowwrapped film format, she added.

The range hit stores on Sunday.
