Waitrose has been named Bramley retailer of the year at this year’s Brammy Awards in recognition of its wide range of Bramley products and strong sales of fresh Bramley apples over the past year.

The Brammy judges said they were impressed with Waitrose’s 8.4% share of the fresh Bramley apple market - nearly double its share of the total grocery market - and highlighted its “efforts to increase sales through promotional strategies”.

Sainsbury’s was given the chairman’s award for achieving fresh Bramley sales of about 4,000 tonnes and a retail share of about 27% - also nearly double its total share of the grocery market.
