Dairy farmers are braced for further cuts in the price of raw milk after Robert Wiseman Dairies cut its price by 0.25ppl.
All eyes are now on the co-operatives Dairy Farmers of Britain, which has its own liquid business supplying the Co-op, and First Milk, which has a close link with Robert Wiseman.
Few analysts expect either company to buck the trend and resist a cut. Dairy Crest is maintaining its liquid price for now. But it is known to be paying out more than it is getting in.
Robert Wiseman Dairies’ move was predicted after Arla Foods’ 0.35ppl reduction last month. Robert Wiseman has also cut its level supply bonus, paid for supplying a similar volume of milk each month, from 1.2ppl to 0.3ppl. It has also increased its penalties.
