A leading potato supplier says it may be forced to close its packing operation, affecting up to 95 jobs.

Stuart Nelson, customer marketing director with Solanum, said the company’s Yaxley potato packing plant had sustained losses over the last three years.

“We’re currently consulting with all 95 employees and we’re still considering options to rescue the situation,” said Nelson.

He added that if the board did decide on a redundancy programme, Solanum would do all that it could to redeploy staff elsewhere in the company.
