Irish banana giant Fyffes has the green light from shareholders for its demerger. The company's general produce and distribution business will become Total Fruit from 30 December.

It whittles Fyffes down to a business that produces, distributes and markets bananas, melons and pineapples from Central and Southern America. In the half year to 30 June, changes to the EU's import regime and higher costs knocked €35m off pre-tax profits at its tropical fruit business.
