Nine gangmasters who supplied hundreds of workers to daffodil and vegetable growers in Cornwall have been found to have violated Gangmasters Licensing Authority standards.

The GLA introduced Operation Westport to investigate suspected worker abuses, which included workers not being paid for several weeks, below minimum wage levels, steep accommodation fees and faulty minibuses to transport workers.

None of the gangmasters, who have not been named, have as yet had their licences revoked. The workers concerned were mainly from Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Bulgaria.
