Fresh food producer Geest has bought the Genevieve Langlais group of companies for 19m euros excluding debt to be assumed of 7m euros.

GLSA’s operating business Crudi, with a turnover of 52m euros in 2002, has a leading position in the French market for prepared leaf salads and also produces convenience salads.

The buy will make Geest one of the three largest producers of prepared leaf salads in France where it claimed consumption grew by 11% last year.

Geest’s ceo Gareth Voyle said: “The acquisition furthers our Continental European strategy, should provide benefits through procurement and processing and has the potential to deliver new opportunities for us in Spain.”

The acquisition is pending authorisation from the French competition authorities.
