A fresh produce giant has been created by the acquisition of Redbridge Holdings by Total Produce, announced last week.

Total is the European retail and wholesale distribution arm of Fyffes, which was demerged at the start of the year. Redbridge, purchased for £15.5m, is the UK's biggest fruit and veg company. The combined company will have annual sales of £1.3bn.

The Redbridge brand will be retained for retail clients, while Total will be used for wholesale. The merger includes the Summerfruit Company and Redeva, which breeds new strawberry varieties, into the Total fold.
