Dorothy Goodbody's Wholesome Stout has escaped sanction by the Portman Group's complaints panel because its label was "slightly saucy" rather than sexually suggestive.

Alcohol Concern filed the complaint about the cartoon, which features a woman pulling her dress up to show her thigh. If the panel had judged it associated the drink with "sexual success" it would have breached Portman's packaging code and faced a ban.

"As this is a drawing and not a real woman, the drink is not in breach of our code," said Portman chief executive David Poley.
