Whisky distiller William Grant & Sons has come up with a natural and novel way to distil its own vodka brand.
The family-owned Scottish manufacturer has built a distillery in Iceland to produce the 40% abv Reyka Vodka, using spring water so low in minerals it doesn’t need demineralisation before it is distilled.
Lava rock filtration system is used to enhance purity while geothermal heat also warms the still. William Grant claimed that this meant the new premium handcrafted vodka had a unique crispness and purity with creamy vanilla notes.
The 70cl Reyka will initially sell in specialist outlets and style bars (rsp: £15.99)
New brand development manager Elwyn Gladstone said: “The reception Reyka Vodka has received from the trade to date has been very positive.”
William Grant is broadening its portfolio beyond Scotch whisky; it already owns the Polstar vodka brand.
