The Black Farmer has relaunched its poultry offer with a new Freedom Food chicken.
The sausage specialist has so far confirmed listings with Budgens and Ocado for its Great White Hope free-range chicken, which is being supplied under a new partnership with Banham Poultry.
The Black Farmer had previously produced chicken with Lloyd Maunder but that supply agreement came to an end following Lloyd Maunder’s takeover by 2 Sisters last year. It has not supplied chicken since.
Banham will also produce and distribute a new range of Black Farmer barbecue chicken thighs, with flavours including Kingston Hot & Fruity, Kentucky Chilli, Louisiana Spice and Midwest Spicy Maple.
Owner Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones said the branded bird would attract shoppers looking for affordable British free range chicken.
“Having the reassurance of the Freedom Food standard is increasingly important to people shopping in this sector,” he said. “We are setting the gold standard.”
Meanwhile, Emmanuel-Jones is supporting a range of initiatives backing the upcoming Coeliac Awareness Week. Black Farmer products are carrying stickers flagging up the event, while advice and information will be available on the company’s website.
