Greggs has raised £23,391 for the charity Help for Heroes by giving away the profits from its Royal Wedding themed products.

The money made from the sale of Coronation Chicken sandwichs, Jammy Heart Biscuits and Royal Wedding Cupcakes in the run up to the wedding will contribute to the building of five centres for wounded personnel returning from Afghanistan and Iraq.

Greggs CEO Ken McMeikan said the bakery decided to support Help for Heroes because the cause is close to the heart of Prince William and the Royal Familly. McMeikan added that with so many staff having close relatives in the armed forces and having served himself in the Royal Navy for five years, he was proud to help the charity.

"The charity provides vital support for recovering servicemen and women and as a former serviceman myself, I am delighted to present the cheque to them today," said McMeikan, after presenting a cheque to the charity last week at its newly launched recovery centre at Tedworth House in Wiltshire.
