Morrisons booted Asda from its usual top spot this week, largely thanks to a new promotion on its salmon fillets, which were half price at £1.20/300g. The retailer also made two small reductions, knocking a penny off Branston pickle and Quorn frozen mince. It upped the onions by 22p/kg.

Adsa clinched second place but faced fierce competition from Tesco, whose basket cost just 2p more. A promotion ended on Mr Kipling’s Deep Filled Bramley Apple Pies, up 31p, and it upped Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice by 13p. A promotion began on Johnsons Baby Oil, knocking it down 30p.

Tesco fell to third. Its Jacob’s Creek Shiraz Rosé was up £2.04 after an offer ended and there were three hikes. It added a penny to the French bread, 5p to Quorn frozen mince and 30p/300g to the salmon fillets.

There were no hikes at Sainsbury's, which fell a place to fourth. Johnson’s Baby Oil went back up by 63p after a week-long promotion ended and it added 5p to the Quorn Frozen Mince.

Waitrose began promotions on red seedless grapes, which were down £1/kg, Old El Paso Fajita Dinner Kit £1.07 and Jacob’s Creek Shiraz Rosé £2. It also added a penny to the Branston Pickle and 3p to the Quorn Frozen Mince.
