Bass is building up a head of steam behind Dutch lager Grolsch with the popular beer putting in record sales figures. Latest data from ACNielsen for the 12 months to the end of June showed the brand's volumes had doubled, with value up 98%. The brewer said sales of Grolsch had quadrupled in five years and was the fastest growing top 10 beer brand. The brand's rate of sale also trebled in May and June this year. A £10m marketing budget for the brand, which includes a new TV advertising campaign, has been the driving force behind the success. Bass intends to continue the push in the run up to Christmas, while more attention will be spent pushing the brand's 1.5 litre bottle. Sales director John Holberry said: "The growth of bigger bottles is reflected in the demand Bass has already received for the 1.5 litre format this summer." {{DRINKS }}
