Fresh produce prices could soar and the industry’s carbon footprint rocket in size if proposed EU pesticide regulatory changes are adopted, a pan-industry group has warned. The group, which includes the BRC and FDF, has written to Gordon Brown to insist he raise the issue with French President Sarkozy and other EU heads of state.

“The removal of these crop protection products, without adequate substitution, could make growing many key crops in the UK no longer economically viable,” said the group.
