A Scottish grower has become the first supplier to be prosecuted for using an unlicensed gangmaster.

Soft fruit producer David Leslie Fruits was fined £500 after a Gangmasters Licensing Authority investigation discovered an unlicensed Bulgarian business had supplied 250 workers to pick strawberries on the farm in 2008.

"This prosecution sends a warning to all farmers who are tempted to use unlicensed labour providers whether they are in this country or abroad," said GLA chairman Paul Whitehouse.
