GlaxoSmithKline, which makes drink brands Ribena and Lucozade, has beefed up its non-executive board with the appointment of James Murdoch, son of media mogul Rupert, as a non-executive director.

Murdoch, who is chairman and CEO of News Corporation Europe and Asia, takes up his seat on the board of directors on 20 May, replacing Sir Ian Prosser and Dr Ronaldo Schmitz.

“His experience of global business, marketing and communications will bring a unique and alternative perspective to the board,” said GSK chairman Sir Christopher Gent.
