Following recent news that Holland has had far fewer cases of FMD than originally forecast, a relaxation of controls has meant a return to normal trading. The timing is opportune as negotiations for the peak summer ham promotion programme can start in earnest. There has been concern among UK importers that any delay would mean the traditional slots in July and August for hams would be lost and year on year volumes would take a hit. With a return to business as usual, major brands will be fighting it out for the prime positions. Distributors are reluctant to indicate price points but it is expected hams will be featured as a straight price reduction, rather than bogofs, due to unit costs. {{M/E CANNED GOODS }}
