The Harry Ramsden brand, which is usually associated with fish and chips, is to debut in the meat-based section of supermarket freezers with a range of meat pies.
Rolling out now to selected Sainsbury's stores in the Midlands and the north, the Steak and Kidney and Chicken and Mushroom variants are manufactured by Mr P's Premier Pies, which has been supplying the 74-year old Harry Ramsden restaurant chain for several years. At 220g, the pies are larger than rivals and sport the brand emblem on puff pastry crusts. Royal blue packaging aims for on-fixture impact and boasts "a home-baked taste and traditional recipe". Rsp: Steak and Kidney, £2.29, Chicken & Mushroom £2.49.
The newcomers join a growing list of Harry Ramsden branded retail products which already includes the Chipshop range of battered fish and chips from Young's Bluecrest and a new vegetable oil from Anglia Oils.
