Food and drink companies will have until 14 December to comply with the list of permitted health claims approved by the European Commission last week.

The deadline was laid down in the Regulation published today in the Official Journal of the European Union.

Over 1,600 proposed health and nutrition Article 13 claims were rejected by EFSA, including several related to probiotics. EFSA approved only 222 claims.

The responsibility for ensuring that manufacturers use only the claims on this list will fall to Trading Standards and the ASA.
