Courage and Bombardier brewer Wells & Young’s has bought Scottish beers McEwan’s and Younger’s from Heineken UK.

The worldwide deal, agreed this week, means the Bedford-based brewer gains control of off-trade products including premium canned ale McEwan’s Export and bottled beer McEwan’s Champion Ale.

“We will invest and nurture these brands, while putting their Scottish heritage first,” said Wells and Young’s managing director Nigel McNally, who added that the company planned to establish an office in Edinburgh and invest heavily in marketing.
