High street sign

Footfall on the UK’s beleagured high streets rose 4.4% year-on-year over the bank holiday weekend, claims retail consultancy Springboard.

Coastal and ‘historic’ towns saw the biggest gains, both achieving double digit footfall growth. Contrary to recent trends, retail parks and shopping centres were the big losers, with retail parks even seeing a 13.1% drop in footfall on Monday.

Diane Wehrle, Insights Director at Springboard said: “As UK schools’ summer half term begins at a time when consumer confidence is at a high, families were confidently out in force across UK high streets over the weekend, bringing a welcome boost to what has been a difficult start to the year for these destinations.”
