Fuller Smith & Turner has posted a 2% rise in own-beer volumes, which includes key brand London Pride, for the 16 weeks to 18 July.

The brewer and pub operator said it had benefited from improved weather compared to last year, adding that Organic Honeydew was its fastest growing brand.

“I am pleased with our performance in the first 16 weeks of this year,” said chairman Michael Turner.

“As the sun has shone, our customers have defied the economic gloom to come and enjoy our outstanding cask conditioned ales, delicious food, great wines and exemplary service.”

“Our long-term strategy of focusing on quality, cash generation and a strong balance sheet continues to prove to be resilient and, we believe, is the right strategy for our shareholders.”

But he warned the outlook remained difficult to judge and heavily depends on the direction of the economy and how consumers will react to impeding tax rises, he added.
