Saka Water has launched a new Ice Tea range with functional benefits.

The range, which will go head to head with brands such as Lipton Ice Tea, comes in two 100%-natural fruit flavours of peach and lemon, both of which are made with extracts of black tea, known for its antioxidant properties.

Like Saka's flavoured mineral waters, Ice Tea will be positioned as a healthy alternative to fizzy drinks.

"We believe these new Ice Tea variants will seriously challenge some long-established rivals," said Nevid Ahmed, marketing director for distributor Navson Sales. "It is lightly sweetened and has all the healthy antioxidant benefits of tea."

The new range would also benefit from the fact it used natural mineral water from an underground aquifer in the heart of the Koroglu mountains in northern Turkey, Ahmed said. "Unlike some others, and despite our low price point, our Ice Tea contains no artificial flavours, no caramel and is made from natural mineral water."

The UK market currently has few ice tea brands and Saka would look to introduce new flavours in the future, he said.

"The ice tea market in the US is booming, so we see great potential in the UK," said a spokesman.

Saka Ice Tea comes in 500ml bottles, priced at 69p each or £1.99 for a six-pack.

The Saka range includes natural waters in lemon, strawberry, pomegranate, and raspberry and cranberry flavours.
