Proposed changes to the EU quota system could open the floodgates to more dairy imports, pushing prices down, Dairy UK has warned.

The EC is believed to be offering some member states bigger quota increases in return for support for its Health Check package, which will be voted on this month. That could lead to European production rising more rapidly than previously agreed, with the UK - a significant dairy importer - a favoured market. UK farmers are unlikely even to meet their present quotas.
