Brewer Greene King has reported positive trading across all four of its divisions. In a statement it said that in the 51 weeks to April 23, its total beer sales by volume had increased 7%. Sales of its Greene King IPA ale had risen 4%, Abbot Ale by 5% and Old Speckled Hen by 9%.
Confectionery and snack foods group Glisten has revealed that it expects full-year results to be in line with expectation. In a trading update, it said that trading in the past few months had been strong. Paul Simmonds, chief executive, added: "Demand has been especially high for products from our confectionery division, where like-for-like sales to the end of April are now 9% ahead."
Cigarette manufacturer British American Tobacco reported that first-quarter profit from operations rose 6% to £616m on sales up 9% to £2,297m. Chairman Jan du Plessis added: "We have made a good start to 2006."
