Cape hit by hail

Fruit growers in South Africa's Western Cape have been hit by hail and cold weather, damaging some stonefruit crops, top fruit and grapes. Exports should be unaffected.

Grapefruit down

Florida grapefruit is suffering from higher levels of canker this year, cutting crop estimates to 25 million cartons - down 9% on last year. Exports to Europe are predicted to fall as a result.

Spud volumes rise

Most of Europe's potato crop has been lifted and estimates indicate a larger volume than 2006, says the British Potato Council. Key growers in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany are posting higher yields than in 2006. The British crop is expected to be lower because of the wet summer.
