Robert Wiseman Dairies is spending £500,000 on a trial to see if its fleet of 1,500 vehicles could be run on waste cooking oil in a bid to cut carbon emissions. Following an earlier test, it is also assessing the potential for using liquid natural gas.
Imports lose out
Continental cheeses are losing out to British territorials. Imports fell 7% between 2004 and 2006 to £340m per year, while territorials rose 16% to £220m according to Mintel.

Partners in Cheese is to build its £70m cheese plant at Kingmoor Park near Carlisle. It has managed to secure the supply of 190 million litres of milk from local farmers by promising a price of 27ppl.
